About Kathy Miller

believe the strategies, coalitions and teams utilized in downtown’s
revitalization can, and should, be used to solve neighborhood issues
throughout Stockton. I resigned my position with the Downtown Alliance
in March, to run for City Council and stress my commitment to community-wide
problem solving. Stockton faces some tough issues and there are
choices to be made. With so many Council seats turning over, it is
critical that we elect experienced decision makers.”

- Born in Oregon; raised in Southern California; moved to
Stockton in 1997 after 17 years in Seattle, WA
- Married 30 years to Karl Miller
- 3 Children – Andrew, age 28; Adam, age 26; Katie, age
22

- Political Affiliation – None. An independent
voter who votes “for the best person in each race, regardless of their
party”.
- Obtained a three year AA in Interior Design when her
youngest child began school
- Successfully operated her own design business for 11
years – in Stockton as Bonniebrook Interiors
- Volunteered for First Night Stockton, the city’s
alcohol-free New Year’s Eve Celebration of the Arts, from 1997 – 2006;
chaired ticket sales, fundraising and entertainment committees,
eventually served 3 years as President of the Board, overseeing all
aspects of the event
- Executive Director of the Downtown Stockton Alliance,
2004-2008
- Earned the designation of Certified Downtown
Professional from Cal State San Bernardino
- Priorities, if elected:
- Public Safety must be enhanced
with active neighborhood involvement, community policing programs,
increased outreach into our schools, enlarging the County jail,
support for Peacekeepers and other programs to reduce gang activity
and aggressive treatment programs to stem the drug epidemic.
- Supports increasing educational outreach to help
homeowners remain in their homes and City assistance programs, such
as the First Time Home Buyer Down Payment Assistance Program, to
address the Foreclosure Crisis, which is increasing
neighborhood blight and joblessness.
- Sustainable Neighborhoods, created
through good planning, balanced development and support for infill,
are critical to attracting high-quality employers and retaining an
educated work force.
- Supports a regional approach to growing our
Local Economy and believes the Stockton Economic
Development Department should be a driving force in this effort.
Teamwork and regional partnerships must be enhanced to bring more
family-wage jobs to the community.

Kathy and her Welsh Corgi Brynn, participated in this
year's "Strut Your Mutt", a fundraiser for the animal shelter.
